A study of the concept of success in America at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the early Nineteenth Century. Materials looked at include children's homiletic literature, newspapers of the period, and the works of Nathaniel Hawthorne. The image of the bucolic yeoman is traced at it is transformed into the Yeoman Mechanic.
